Sky lanterns, also known as flying lanterns, floating lanterns, Kongming or wish lanterns, have become popular at weddings and other large get togeathers and celebrations! Simply add the ones you would like to your shopping cart and check out. Our sky lanterns are biodegradable, fire resistant and use an easy to light cotton wax fuel. They are approximately 38" tall, 24" wide at the top and 15" wide at the bottom. Read the DIRECTIONS page before using the sky lanterns. We now have white EZ Light sky lanters!!! The fuel lights easily with a regular lighter - light the 4 corners of the fuel with a regular lighter, no need for a blow torch (infact DO NOT use a blow torch it will ruin the EZ Light fuel) and allow the sky lantern to inflate as per the normal procedure on the DIRECTIONS page. The fuel for the EZ Light sky lanterns also goes on the sky lantern the same way that is explained on the DIRECTIONS page and burns for about 4 to 5 minutes.

The type of sky lanterns or flying lanterns we sell are made by hand in China. They are a craft product. The sky lantern itself is made from 4 main materials; paper, glue, bamboo and steel wire. Most sky lanterns are made with 4 pieces of paper that are glued togeather. The cutting of the paper is usually the only part that is done by machine. Bamboo is then cut into small thin strips and formed into a circle. Once the bamboo is formed into a circle a thin piece of steel wire (sometimes the steel wire is coated in a thin layer of plastic or wax to protect it from rusting in storage) is used to secure it in the shape of a circle and then the steel wire is used to make the familiar cross shape on the bottom of the sky lanterns that supports the fuel cell or fuel tab. In China, sometimes they use cotton that is soaked in kerosene, alcohol or another flammable liquid, however this is not recommended or safe in our opnion: DO NOT attempt this.
The most common fuel for flying Lanterns is usually one of the following 3 types: solid wax fuel slug, wax saturated chip board or cotton wrapped wax (EZ Light). Our flying lanterns come with cotton wrapped wax - EZ Light Sky Lanterns.
If you're searching online you'll see that most of the time when sky lanterns or flying lanterns are being written about, with reguard to festivals, that the Festival of the sky lanterns in the Pingxi region of Taiwan, which is next to Taipei, comes up. People release hundreds of thousands of lanterns during the festival and it is quite a sight. There are many videos of the festival on youtube.
As impressive as the Pingxi celebrations are many times more sky lanterns and flying lanterns are used in America, China and around the world for all kinds of celebrations including: weddings, birthdays, New Years, The 4th of July, funerals, memorials, charity events and just about any other kind of celebration you can think of.
